Major League Baseball has just begun for the twenty twenty-three season. I couldn't be happier because that means I get to watch the Texas Rangers probably five times all year. I'll only get to watch them five times because the MLB uses Bally Sports to cover and broadcast these games. Bally Sports is a region stream, meaning since I live in Ohio, I'm not in the region of the Texas Rangers. I am in range to watch the Cleveland Guardians or the Cincinnati Reds. This is frustrating because the NHL they have a partnership with ESPN, and all these hockey games are broadcasted on ESPN+. This provides easier access to watch teams from all over the country.

I believe that MLB has a viewership issue, and I think a way to fix this is to allow people to watch any game on ESPN+. Because the MLB has its own service that allows people to watch any game, this service costs one hundred and fifty dollars per year. Compared to ESPN+, which costs ten dollars per month. I would just like to be able to watch the Rangers anywhere, anytime I want to.

What do you guys think? Do you think MLB should reconsider joining ESPN+, or should they continue to make games unavailable unless you have their streaming service? What is your favorite Major League team? Leave a comment down below. I'd love to have a discussion with you.

  1. Chase, I'm right there with you. I experience the same issue in not being able to watch the Rangers since I've moved here from Texas. ESPN+ is exploding and it's amazing that every NHL game, except for a few, is shown on ESPN+ every night. MLB.TV is an alternative but it would be much easier to watch these sports on the same platform.

  2. I've always had this issue with the Yankees. It used to always be an issue with trying to find the game on your local station or the YES network. Some games would be blacked out so we just couldn't watch them (this was before illegal streaming even existed).

  3. I agree with everything you're saying here me, and my roommates do tend to watch hockey more do to one of us having an ESPN+ account to watch hockey games and I think that if baseball was to do something similar it would increase viewership within the sport.
