Parking Pass
For my first blog, I want to discuss the reasoning for the ONU Campus. The topic is parking passes. To understand our students’ frustration, you must first understand how the parking passes work.
So, here at ONU, you must purchase a parking pass for the semester to keep a vehicle on campus. Depending on where you live, that is the type of pass you get. When you get this pass, it allows you to park near your room. But it does not allow you to park anywhere.
For example, you and your friends want to hang out, but they live across the campus. This forces you to walk across campus and does not allow you to drive over. This frustrates numerous students that I have talked to. A more reasonable parking pass would be if you buy a parking pass then you can park near any dorm complex for a certain amount of time because this has numerous benefits.
One benefit would be that it helps students see other classmates easier than having to walk. Another use could be increasing the price by twenty dollars since you can park in any complex parking lot. This benefits the university more because they make an extra twenty dollars for every student who purchases a parking pass.
And I know the counter to this argument would be, “well, our campus is not big enough that requires you to drive.” But let’s be real. Nobody wants to walk across campus in single-degree temperatures.
These benefits are just a few that could help ONU with parking. These changes probably won’t happen, but I’d love to see our school officials take action and change the mold.
Hi Chase! I also avoid walking on campus. Why would I walk in the cold, snow, rain, etc. when I have my car? Luckily, I have ridiculously dark window tint and I have never received a ticket. I definitely think individuals should have more options for areas to park, as well as different levels of parking passes. What if individuals could buy parking passes for every lot? Ex: Buy a red lot pass, green lot pass, etc.....
